Rotary Club Estoi Palace International is a truly international club with members of many different nationalities. What unites them is a desire to make a difference to the world, to help relieve poverty, to improve education and to foster peace and understanding.
To help support World Polio Day on the 24th October some of our members have volunteered to participate in our End Polio Now Virtual Sponsored Bike Ride.
The virtual bike ride is a short, fun animation which sees our riders attempt to complete the course. Some don’t as there are obstacles in the way. The animation will be shown at our club meeting on the 26th October and you are invited to sponsor one or more of our riders.
Sponsorship donations are double matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which means that every €10 raised results in €30 being donated to End Polio Now.
UPDATE: Due to new Covid19 restrictions this event has been postoned. Please check back for more information. Here’s your chance to get fit and help us to eradicate Polio forever. The ride will take place on Sunday, November 22nd, starting and finishing in Estoi. There is a choice of 2 rides. The hill ride is around 35 kms and includes the Serra São Miguel. The other ride is over flatter terrain and will head towards the coast.
To support our local community through the current crisis we have some initiatives underway. These include the delivery of 60,000 medical gloves to Faro Hospital (in liaison with other Rotary Clubs across the Algarve); continued contributions to local food banks; supporting local frontline health workers with personal items such a soap, bottled water, energy bars etc. for use while on duty, and we are actively looking at other ways to support the Estoi community including the local school together with other nearby communities who are impacted by the crisis.
The current pandemic has meant that most of our fundraising efforts have had to be cancelled this year. We are therefore appealing for donations to continue our work to support those who need help. Follow this link to a donation form: https://rotaryestoipalace.org/payments/coronavirus.

The 2021 Rotary Charity Golf Tournament took place on Friday 27th August at the magnificent Monte Rei Golf and Country Club, a ‘signature’ Jack Nicklaus designed course.
The event had been postponed from the original date of the 19th August due to wildfires in the area of Monte Rei but despite many challenges the event attracted 44 players who had a wonderful day of golf, lunch and prize-giving.
Rotary Club Estoi Palace International (RCEPI) contacted Faro Hospital to see how they could help them. The Hospital has been under huge pressure both physically and financially during the pandemic with staff stretched to the limit. The Club received a “Wish List” of items that would help them and arranged for some of these to be delivered.
On 29th June in the delightful garden setting of Barbacoa Restaurant, Rotary Club Estoi Palace International (RCEPI) changed Presidents for the coming Rotary Year of 2021-22. Outgoing President Uwe Jonsson handed over the chain of office to incoming President Shirley Dunne. The Handover was the first time Club members had been together for an official meeting in over a year and it was a pleasure to be together with various guests, albeit appropriately socially distanced.
Rotary Club Estoi Palace International joined forces with the Rotary Clubs of Faro, Olhão and Praia da Rocha to help purchase refrigeration units for the new Refood premises in Faro and Almancil. Helped by a grant from the Portuguese Rotary Foundation, almost 3000 euros was raised to buy the equipment.
The Covid19 pandemic has had devastating consequences, not just on people’s health but on their ability to survive on a day to day basis, as jobs are lost and minimal support is available in many cases. For parents not being able to feed their children is one of their worst nightmares.
In association with teachers at Escola Básica Poeta Emiliano da Costa in Estoi, we have recently supported 15 families who have needed help to get through the worst effects of the pandemic.
