Youth Exchange Programme for 2010 – 2011
Apply for a Study Year Abroad through Rotary International! Imagine leaving your home and moving to another country to live with a new family, whilst learning to communicate every day in a foreign language. Each year, more than 8,000 Rotary Youth Exchange students do exactly that. Long-term exchange students, who range in age from 15 to 19, attend a local school for as long as a year, taking exams and receiving grades just like their peers. They live with host families, attend Rotary Club meetings, and take part in Youth Exchange activities. The Rotary Club Estoi Palace International has recently decided to develop such a Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) for students in the Algarve and will soon invite students from the first grade of high school and above to apply for a study year abroad. Students can have an International or Portuguese background but must be prepared to spend one school year in the programme. The YEP offers qualified students (male and female) the opportunity to spend up to one full year studying in one of a number of countries around the world. Starting and ending times for the exchange differ in each country depending on the country’s school system, but in principal the programme begins at the start of the school year, usually in the autumn, and lasts until the school year ends. Participation in the exchange involves a reciprocal arrangement where a foreign student will be invited to stay for a year, studying in Portugal with the support of the Rotary Club Estoi Palace International. Age requirements differ by country and are governed by school systems in recipient countries. To qualify for an exchange for the years 2010-2011, the following age limits apply: Australia & New Zealand born 1993 or 1994 USA & Canada born between 15 August 1992 and December 31, 1994 Other countries born 1992, 1993 or 1994 Rotary Club Estoi Palace International will hold interviews between 30th October 2010 and the first week of December 2010, for placement in 2011. Interviews will involve both the applicant and their family and will usually be conducted in the applicant's home. Further details regarding applications and opportunities will be published shortly. In the meantime, if you have general questions or wish to register an interest, please contact us.
