Projects Supported by RCEPI
Every month, Rotary Club Estoi Palace International provides 500 litres of milk to Casa do Povo de Estoi, a public institution that helps disfavoured children and the elderly on this parish.
In addition we are constantly organising many other projects and events to raise funds for different institutions or group of people.
For details of these and all our other activities, including information on guest speakers at our regular meetings, please visit our "Events Calendar" page.
Chartered on 2nd September, 2008
The Rotary movement expands across the world through new Rotary Clubs. To form a new Rotary Club is called to Charter a Club.
Our club was set up by three founder members and some past Rotarians who between them decided to charter a new International Rotary Club in Algarve.
The founders chose Estoi Palace as its base for a variety of reasons, including its convenient location and facilities.
The formal inauguration was held on 26th October 2008 when we received the Charter Letter, presented by the Rotary District Governor, Teresa Mayer.
Amongst the 100,000 foreign nationals resident in the Algarve, many have had Rotarian experience in their home countries. Some would like to continue their Rotarian engagement but, because of language barriers, feel uneasy about joining a local Portuguese Rotary Club.
Aims & Achievements
Our aim is to help all those in need, we help those in our own community as well as those in other countries.
We currently help with Food Bank distribution with a monthly donation of milk – totalling in excess of 30,000 litres so far in 5 years. Over the years we have bought a refrigerated van for the Banco Alimentar (Food Bank) and an ambulance for the fire department in Sao Bras.
Children in Estoi benefit from our scheme to provide dictionaries and awards to recognise individual achievements.
Currently we are working with other Rotary Clubs in the Algarve towards a breast screening unit for Algarve Oncology Association Faro. We are also sponsoring a student through university and helped to buy a wheelchair for Miriam.
We also have fun, each year we hold a major Golf Tournament, Quiz Nights and Concerts all to raise money for our needy causes, at the same time enjoying fellowship
There are also other expatriates without any Rotarian background but with a strong desire to contribute to the local (and wider) community. The Rotary Club Estoi Palace International represents an opportunity for both groups of people.
We meet every Tuesday, at 13:00 at the renovated Estoi Palace, which used to belong to the Viscount of Estoi, José Francisco da Silva, but is now the Pousada de Faro - Palácio de Estoi. Lunch costs €15 or €18 if you want to include wine with your meal.
Meeting language is English. Dress code is "Smart Casual". We often have a guest speaker at each meeting and a list of planned speakers and other events can be found here on our "Events Calendar" page.
Rotarians and non-Rotarians are welcome to visit us, but please let us know in advance if you plan to attend our meetings.
